Water child
Water Child A solo performance designed as a secular rite of passage connected to loss, drawing from symbolism rooted in Slavic traditions as well as other cultures where similar rituals are still practiced.
The performance incorporates elements such as traditional regional folk lullabies, dolls, water, red ribbons, hair, and myrrh oil. Myrrh symbolizes both death and life.
Myrrh was commonly used in the embalming process. At the same time, due to its antiseptic properties, it was also used by midwives during childbirth. Energetically, myrrh is the oil of Mother Earth — it nurtures our connection to both our biological mother and Mother Nature.
The work employs symbolism on many levels — it can be interpreted literally, or it can be related to any borderline situation. It can also be linked to the primal relationship with one’s mother, with oneself, or with one’s child, both in a literal and metaphorical sense.
